In Memoriam: Prof. IRENE EFESIOU, Professor Emeritus of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and Expert Member of ICOMOS-CIF
ICOMOS CIF expresses the deepest condolences for the passing of our dear colleague Prof Irene Efesiou to his family, friends and colleagues

Prof. Irene Efesiou was an architect, a Professor Emeritus of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and an Expert Member of ICOMOS-CIF.
Irene was born in Athens in 1951. In 1974, she received her degree in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. In 1975, she received a Licence d’Urbanisme from the University of Paris VIII. From 1977, she worked and taught at the Department of Building Construction of the School of Architecture of the NTUA.
In addition to teaching, she has important architectural works, numerous publications and contributions to Scientific Committees.
From 2013, she served as an elected member of the Board of Directors of ICOMOS Hellenic.
From 2016 until 2018, Irene was the elected director of the post-graduate Interdisciplinary Program “Protection of Monuments” at the N.T.U.A.
She never stopped fighting for the safeguarding and preservation of Cultural Heritage until the end, despite the seriousness of her illness, which she faced with great dignity.
Known for her gentle nature, kindness, and integrity, she will be missed by all.
She was a very active member of ICOMOS-CIF and we will very much miss her great contributions. Rest in Peace dear Irene.
