ICOMOS-CIF has other members that have been accepted to the committee, but who have not contributed during 2026 to meetings and activities. The above list of active members is updated regularly. Should a ICOMOS-CIF member not attend three consecutive Annual Meetings of the Committee and its Symposia without due cause, and over the same period not demonstrate active participation, the Bureau may decide to withdraw the membership.
Expert Members are accepted based on their individual competence, and their knowledge and experience in education and training for the understanding, protection, conservation and management of built heritage, historic sites and cultural landscapes. A minimum of five years experience is required before applying for expert member, either upon personal application or by proposal of the National Committee to which they belong.
ICOMOS Members interested in gaining knowledge and building up expertise in areas relevant to the objectives of the Committee may apply for Affiliate Membership. Affiliate members are conditionally accepted for a period of three years, after which time their contribution to the Committee will be evaluated. The Affiliate Membership shall then be extended for another similar period of time (with a maximum of two such triennial extensions), upgraded to Expert Membership, or rejected on the basis of non-participation or unsatisfactory performance.
Organizations of any kind who are members of ICOMOS and with expertise in one or more areas related to the aims of ICOMOS CIF can apply for Institutional Membership.
Applications relating to all categories of ICOMOS-CIF membership must be sent to cif@icomos.org, including the following information:
- Curriculum Vitae, including detailed information on experience in education and training for the protection, conservation and management of built heritage, historic sites and cultural landscape. Please include dates, organisations, courses, themes, roles, and names of course leaders.
- A letter of nomination from the applicant’s ICOMOS National Committee. Where no ICOMOS National Committee exists, two letters of support, at least one of which should be signed by an ICOMOS member
- Application / Motivation letter including the applicant’s relevant experience in education and training for ICOMOS remits, the year of registration in ICOMOS and the member number
Based on this information, ICOMOS-CIF Bureau will assess and verify the individual competencies and expertise of applicants. If successful, new members will be required to complete the ICOMOS-CIF Membership database sheet.
Membership applications can be submitted at any time of the year. Assessments take place three times a year, and thereafter there could be some delay in communicating the outcome.
