Early History
The International Training Committee (CIF, Comité International de Formation) was created in 1984 at the initiative of Professor Andrzej Tomaszewski. He was the first CIF President.
Sir Bernard Fielden was invited in 1989 to prepare the first draft for the Guidelines on Education and Training in the Conservation of Monuments, Ensembles and Sites (ICOMOS-CIF), adopted by the ICOMOS General Assembly in Colombo in 1993, where Jukka Jokilehto was elected as second CIF President.
CIF collaborated from the beginning with ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) and COTAC (Council on Training in Architectural Conservation).
